Blogging For Income Or Income From Blogging?

The blog is still used as a log of personal or group activity shared with others within a specific community but has evolved well beyond sharing an outing with friends and family.  Ordinary people are making a great living just blogging.  Major corporations are integrating blogs into their web sites to build their brand and a whole new genre of educators are involved with ‘blog marketing’ sharing their skills to help businesses and individuals make more money with blogs.

You are reading this article because of the title.  You may already be active in blogging or want to start blogging and the bottom line is you want to make money doing it.  Good for you.

First, some of the best money making blogs by individuals, are blogs that started out as a means to share a specific interest with others.  The person who has built up a large subscriber base and a high search engine ranking, most likely has a point on target topic. An example would be a home maker sharing organic baby food recipes with hundreds of subscribers and new visitors every hour and within her blog she has an affiliate relationship with some high profile baby outfitters. Along with a few google content ads, she could be making 6 figures annually. In this example, she did not arrive at this point overnight.

On the other hand you have the individual who read that blogs can be a great money maker and goes full steam ahead loading the page with ads but forgets that targeted, quality content brings in the visitors. The blog looks like a banner garden and one gets dizzy with animated ads.

Some bloggers have opted for the quick start by utilizing others content and rearranging a few words or taking advantage of Creative Commons and not giving the author credit. Google can and will identify these practices.  Some put their blog on traffic exchanges only to find out that 90% of all affiliate advertising terms do not allow this or spamming and end up being dropped by the advertiser for life.  Get a notice from google adsense that you violated their terms, good luck getting back your good standing.

So, blogging for income or income from blogging?  The best answer is the later but a combination of both can achieve success if you remember the 3 keys to making money with a blog.
